Finally its arrived! I ordered this for my Xmas trip and it left the USA via international express mail on 16 Dec. It arrived last week, Jan 24!
These pads are made by Kooka Bay and are starting to get a lot of good wraps from the lightweight community.
You can order in a number of configurations, rectangle, tapered etc, or have a custom size. The material looks and feels very strong.
Mine is a standard rectangle, 30d material. It's 3/4 size at 1200 x 570mm, incredibly light - 187gm.
The cost was $US99 plus about $US10 for postage. The full length pad is 238gm and $US109.
Bender also makes pillows for $US40. His website is a bit naff but it does the trick.
My current GG sleep pad is 107gm, shorter and a dam sight thinner. I'm a side sleeper and was always getting a sore hip. I'm prepared to go the extra 80gms for a better nights sleep!

The pack is the 45Lt Zpacks Arc Blast, hiking poles Helinox FL120, Dirty Girl gaiters, Spalms sunsleeves and Altra Lone Peak shoes
It looks quite a wide mat and excellent weight. You say it feels strong but from the photo’s it looks a bit flimsy as though it will be easy to puncture it. Is that the case? Is it like ripstop or just a pice of plastic?
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to read your review when you test it out. Cheers.
Checkout Backpacking Light for some long-term usage reviews. The fabric is nylon. It is a lot stronger than plastic. Unfortunately Bender's website lacks info in this area, but he is very good at answering your questions.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the risk of puncture is any more/less than say my Torso Light.
I use Tyvek as a ground sheet.
Thanks for that i will check it out.
ReplyDeleteI have been pleased with mine so far. It's 266 grams and has synthetic insulation inside to give it an R Value of 4. I used it down to -2 C recently and was nice and warm. It seemed very thin to me at first, but I am starting to have more confidence in it. I use a 40g foam mat under it. Interesting to see I am not the only NZ Kooka bay user:)
